Talking Back In the article, Bell Hooks implies that talking back is a way of showing how she was a strong person. To me, the definition of talking back is a figure of speech when someone responds in a disrespectful, sarcastic, negative way. ... Still, I believe there is always a given time for when, why, where and whom people should talk back because there are consequences in everything people do. Yet people talk back for different reason and different situations. People talk back to defend themselves, to keep them from being humiliated, to keep their pride and ego.
