The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola is just another American gangster film, but what makes it different is its ability to coherently tie in many different sub-themes into a whole complex, yet smooth flowing story using an almost ．operatic・ approach. The central theme of the film and probably the driving force behind the whole storyline is ：the individual・s impotence against established societal structures. ...
The baptism sequence marks a major turn in the film and more importantly, Michael Corleone・s character. The sequence cuts between Michael at the church agreeing to become his nephew・s godfather and the assassinations of their family rivals. ... The Godfather trilogy has sometimes been claimed as a film that ：defined a genre； in that it is not purely a gangster film consisting of violence, but rather using it as a medium to portray the characters of a gang on a deeper and more humanitarian level through the use of different cinematic techniques.
