Plea for Prayer

Madalyn Murray O’Hair, one of the best known atheists in America, successfully banned prayer in public schools in 1963. Despite a number of Americans that were against her, prayer in public schools is still outlawed today. Since prayer has been taken out of schools, there has been an increase in kids hurting kids. Granted, prayer in schools may not stop all the chaos, but if more children were subject to prayer on a daily basis, there is as greater likelihood that a lot of bad events could be avoided. Our forefathers founded our country on the freedom of religion, so prayer in public schools should be allowed. ... Steve McFarland, the author of “The School Prayer Temptation”, states, schools are being kept “religious-free” because of the educational systems’ ideas of the First Amendment (2). ... Prayer should be an option for each individual. ... Linda Chavez the author of “Constitution Doesn’t Prohibit Prayer in Public Schools” states, “It is hard to understand how we got from a First Amendment that permitted that practice to an interpretation that the same amendment banned all religion from the public schools” (1).
