The painter did not observe this. The artist imagined this painting, as he was not alive at the time that Christ was crucified. He may have got some inspiration from the bible as it may have had a description there. This piece is exaggerated as both the moon and sun are out during the daytime with two angels collecting Christ’s blood in golden goblets as it falls from his body.
