Therefore in this essay one will attempt to demonstrate, explain and evaluate the manner in which economic principles and theory can be used for the understanding of contemporary economic problems. ... The first and main topic that one will use to demonstrate the use of economic principles is the contemporary issue of regulation of the energy sector in the UK which entails the dilemma between the provision of energy coming from the public or private sector. Up to the 1980’s the trend for utility industries like that of the energy sector was for them to be run by the government or rather for these type of industries to be nationally provided in the sense of an industry backed by the government.
