Ecclesiastes Ecclesiastes is a book written by someone who is reflecting on life and the futility of everything. The language is very detached and philosophical, without passion or feeling. It is a collection of reflections; there are many themes, all centering on the futility of wisdom and the absurdity of life. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 centers on the pattern of life and the function of time. Ecclesiastes is written in verse, it is a poem describing the pattern of life. One of the themes is a “There is a time for everything” meaning that for everything that we do god has set aside a place and a time for us to do it. Next, is that it is God’s will, whatever happens, happens. Structure is a series of oppositions, presenting good and bad at the same time, affirming the futility of worrying about what’s going to happen.
