In other words, Copeland would not think twice about breaking the law in order to help the slaves. Copeland’s views and ways of thinking were much the same as John Brown’s, making him an excellent addition to John Brown’s group. Another reason that Copeland was accepted into Brown’s group was the fact that he was colored to begin with.
