ohn Grisham Junior was born on February 8th,1955 in Jonesboro Arkansas to a cotton picker/Contstruction worker and homemaker.He was the second oldest in his family and they had moved around 5 different times while John was young because of his fathers line of work.The last place that they had moved to was Southhaven Mississippi in 1967.In each town that they had moved to the first thing John would do is go get a library card form the local library, as he was an avid reader and enjoyed works by John steinback.Reading steinbacks novels had made john think about the idea of becomming a writer as he got older.But as a boy his dream was to play baseball.Although his parents lacked formal education, his mother encouraged him to read and insisted that he prepare himself for college. Grisham had gone to Northwest Mississippi Junoir college in a close town called Senatobia, and managed to play one year of ball before transferring to Delta State.When arriving at Delta he had went on the baseball team but did not have a good year averaging below par results which crushed his dreams of becomming a pro baseball star.After giving up sports he had decided to leave delta to enroll in Mississippi State University.Grisham had no intentions of becomming a writer while in University because he wanted to have a professional career before he had tryed to write a novel.For the first two years of university John had drifted around not being serious about his studies, attending three different Universitys before he had finally recieved one degree.After getting advice from a friend John decided it was time to settle down and changed his subjects from economics to accounting to become a tax lawyer.When he was in law school he had a change of focused and wanted to study criminal law and litigation instead of being a tax lawyer.After graduation he began a small private practice in Southhaven.As you see John likes to change focuses and does again when he gets bored of being a criminal lawyer and decides to become a civil lawyer.He won one of the largest settlement claims in De soto county.John had be elected to the Mississppie house of representivies in 1983.In his Second term he was Vice Chairman of the appointment and elections commitee.A year later, inspired by the real-life testimony of a 12-year-old rape victim, he began writing A time to Kill with one objective in mind and that was to finish the novel.For three years,Grisham woke up at dawn to write before going to work.
