The news is a genre, which is broadcast to inform the audience about information and events from around the world. There are many different news programmes and stations that broadcast these events and information and they all do it in their own way.
This statement implies that the news offers the audience a realistic and varied view on the world and what is going on. ...
Galtung and Ruge constructed a list of news values. News values are the criteria, which help to explain why photographs and events are selected as newsworthy. There are lost of news values including immediacy, familiarity, frequency and continuity. These news values cant apply to all the stories and all the information that could be broadcast so some stories and information may be left out.
The criteria that makes a story newsworthy are that the story must be about important issues or important people and it has to be breaking news. This is because no one wants to see old or boring news. The gatekeepers to the news, the people who decides what goes on the news, knows this and will only broadcast stories that are newsworthy. This does not mean that there are not any other events that are happening around the world. ...
The news is very well planned and the stories that are on a programme are not necessarily stories that have just happened.
