When greeting foreigners, an Indian man will shake hands with another man, but because of their culture they would not shake hands or otherwise touch a woman. If an Indian business woman is being greeted by a foreigner she may initiate a handshake, but if she does not it is expected that the man would smile and give a slight nod. ... In China when carrying out the handshake if extra warmth is to be shown the left hand is added to the handshake, as in business transactions hugging as well as the touching of anywhere else on the person is unacceptable.




It is however important to find out before hand the views of the other party’s culture on the maintenance of eye contact with the handshake. ...
