When, in 1790, the French monarch collapsed, many of the higher orders were considered by historians to be entirely responsable. However in a society ruled by a divine and absolute monarch surely some, if not all, of the blame must be attributed to him. ... Similer situations to this occured between the end of Louis XIVs reign and the eventual collapse of the monarch, it ment the king was increasingly powerless to impliment legislation and that hostility greated him wherever he turned. ... The fact that positions were bought ment that the King found Officiers were difficult to remove once in place, and the very corrupness of many of these men, only interested in the issues effecting their local region, ment the legal system in France was notoriously slow. ...
Also the privilaged groups did nothing what so ever to support the King. ... The system would have almost certainly boosted Frances economy, but a lack of confidence from the privilaged groups was enough to cause the young system to collapse. ...

But it was the King who allowed these groups to become overly involved in French politics. The King, as divine monarch and absolutist ruler, should have been able to prevent a challenge to his own authority. ... Had the regent the foresight to see what the right of remonstrance would do the the structure of French politics, he would have never implimented such an appaling plan. That the right was not instantly removed shows this lack of foresight was present in all the monarchs between Louis XIV and the final collapse of 1790.
Much of this problem was, however, caused by the fact the Regent did not have the divine power of a monarch. ... The regents were often not taken seriously by the French, and certainly in the case of Orlean, they were very unpopular as well.
