In the book Nisa: The Life and Words of a !Kung Woman the author, Marjorie Shostak, examines the lives and experiences of women in !Kung culture. Shostak was an American woman who during the 1970s went to the Dobe area of northwestern Botswana to join a group of academics already studying the !Kung people. The !Kung were an intact hunting and gathering society whom, at that time period, had relatively little outside influence upon their culture.
