Ancient Rome and Greece The comparison of Family Life and People s Roles
Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, are two very similar, though very different civilizations. In Family life and roles of people, there are definitely more differences than similarities. In this comparison, I will be covering the lifestyles and roles for the family members, in these two civilizations. In ancient Greece, and Rome, there are a couple similarities referring to the people’s lifestyles. ... First off, in ancient Rome, the men were in complete charge of the household. ... In Rome the wife was subject to his authority and he demanded respect for his authority. Also in Roman time the woman did a lot of the housework, as in raising the family, cooking, and cleaning. Where as in Greece, The male was involved in the politics. ... Unlike Rome the woman did not do house work. ... In Greece, woman had very limited freedom to the outside world. ... But, in Rome, things were changing. ... In Roman marriages both males and females, were granted a larger network of family members, and the security that came with it. And in Greece the wedding ceremonies were very simple. They started after dark, friends of the bride and groom would carry torches, family would carry gifts, and play music to scare away evil spirits.
