Women of Afghanistan

When the Taliban took over the government of Afghanistan in 1996, they began enforcing Islamic rules, especially against women. The women and girls make up about 55 percent of the people in Afghanistan’s population. They were once people who were 70 percent of Afghanistan’s teachers, 40 percent of its doctors and 50 percent of its civil servants. ... The women cannot look to their husbands for help because they are also persecuted, facing jail if they don’t have long enough beards. ...
The Afghanistan women can make no decisions because they have no rights. ...
If the women are found running underground schools or clinics, they may be shot or stoned to death. Nobody feels they are safe anymore because the Taliban feels it is losing its power, and its reaction has been to increase its brutality, especially against women.
