Atomic Emmsion spectra

The purpose of this experiment is to determine the visible spectral lines of the hydrogen atom and to compare them to the accepted literature value of 1.09737 x 10 m . The spectroscope is calibrated by viewing the known spectrum of helium. The observed spectral lines are related to specific energy transitions in the hydrogen atom. A calibration curve will be then prepared with the spectrometer scales plotted against known wavelengths. We will then determine the wavelengths of the emission lines of the spectrum of unknown elements when viewing through the spectroscope.
