Unnecessary Roughness: A Closer Look

Unnecessary Roughness: A Closer Look In the case of Hackbart v. Cincinnati Bengals, Inc., Dale Hackbart was injured by Charles “Booby” Clark on the field during a professional football game between Hackbarts team, the Denver Broncos, and Clarks team, the Cincinnati Bengals. This cases was brought to court in 1979. During the game, Clark struck Hackbart on the back of his head and neck with Clarks forearm. According to Clark, he did so because his team was losing the game (Behrens and Rosen). It seems like these days, violence is professional sports is much more common than what it used to be and it seems like more and more athletes are getting away with it. Violence that is produced by pro athletes is getting so bad, that not only is it taking place within sporting events, it’s beginning to happen more and more outside of the actual sporting event. So how do this different types of violence affect whether or not the athlete is allowed to return back to play their beloved sport?
