Merlin
In literature, Merlin is perhaps the most frequently portrayed character of King Arthur’s court. Merlin was King Arthur’s advisor, prophet, and magician in the fifth and sixth century Britain. After Arthur’s birth, Merlin became the young boy’s tutor. Merlin was also an alchemist. ... Merlin arranged for the sword-in-the-stone contest by which the young lad Arthur later became King: “He manifested the magical sword buried in the stone and anvil that only the true king, Arthur, was able to pull out, because of his non-attachment to temporal power” (Gulick). This was something Merlin is most famous for. Also, it was Merlin who saved Arthur’s life when Arthur’s sword broke in two in the famous fight with lord Pellinore.
