Critical Analysis of Reich In his essay “Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer” Robert B. Reich describes the changes in the American economy over the last twenty to thirty years. ... When he is discussing the problems of the routine producers, Reich effectively argues with a variety of examples that there will not be many jobs left for dropouts in the future because cheaper foreign production costs and new technology. Reich’s first argument focuses on the cheaper costs of foreign production. ... Reich again uses numerous examples and starts to give facts and figure to support his theory. ... Reich goes on to point out that with the loss of routine production jobs there will be no place for the dropouts. Reich states, “In person servers must also compete with high school graduates and dropouts who years before had moved easily into routine production jobs but no longer can”(296).
