Built in 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial rests in Washington D.C. Nobody is buried at this sight, it is strictly for commemorative purposed. The memorial is cut into the ground in a boomerang type shape where one end points to the Washington Monument, and the other to the Lincoln Memorial. The inscriptions of close to 58,000 names of soldiers that were killed between 1959 and 1975 are etched into the black granite face of the memorial, similar to the carving on a head stone. Their names are recorded in chronological order as opposed to alphabetically. In 1980, a group Vietnam Veterans decided that there was to be a memorial constructed to commemorate those who were lost in this tragic battle.
