History essay

Dear Lord Shaftsbury, I have recently carried out an investigation into factory conditions. I gathered my evidence by interviewing the following people: 1. Josiah Jackson – Factory Owner 2. Emily Beech – Orphanage Manager 3. Henry Beech – Overseer 4. Albert Cook – Factory Worker 5. Mary Taggart – Factory Worker From talking to the various witnesses I have found many things wrong with conditions in the factories. I am not happy with the following things. The children in the mill work for far too long, and this is the cause for many problems that go on in the factory. There are too many injuries happening to the children and too many unguarded machines, which is what is causing most of the injuries to occur. The workers are very poorly paid, considering the number of hours they have to work. Albert Cook, a 12 year old worker gets paid only two and half pence a week and works for 14 hours a day, seven days a week.
