Guilty Woman In this short story, a lot of words were said and actions were taken, giving me lots of indication on what kind of position Mary Slater is going through. In the following paragraphs, I will be naming and explaining four different victim positions that were found at different parts of the short story. At the beginning of the story, Mary Slater finds herself at victim position one. Mary Slater is a very innocent and small girl yet she does not try to impress anyone. In doing so, she has lowered her own self-esteem and she has begun to think, “The men in the neighbourhood were no longer interested in her.” She dresses very plain and usually stays indoors doing housework.
