Logic, Perception and Critical Thinking 1 August 26, 2003 Logic, Perception and Critical Thinking 2 Logic, Perception and Critical Thinking As I understand it Explaining the nature of logic, perception and critical thinking is a tough task, at least for me, but in this paper I am going to reveal my thoughts to you and I will try to explain the differences between these thought patterns, as well as why “logic …, [and perception] is at the heart of critical thinking.” (Critical Thinking, p. 134) Also, I will outline my own perceptual process and describe some types of perceptual blocks that influence my views. To me, logic is factual, or truthful thinking and it should be applicable to everyone. Since logical thinking can be classified as using your senses to come to an impartial or unprejudiced conclusion, logical thinking should be accurate for people of all races, religions and cultures. Tyrone Pow wrote that “logic is the utility of deriving [unbiased or unprejudiced] truth from [personal] experience (rationality). Logic allows one to use the knowledge gathered by their senses to build an accurate, if incomplete, mental model of reality.” Webster’s dictionary defines logic as “correct reasoning.
