The Tale-Tell Heart’s Characters Edgar Allan Poe portrays the narrator in his story The Tale-Tell Heart in great detail. A picture is painted to the reader with the simple words Poe wrote about the character. Each character is given certain and unique tributes which cause them to stand out and be remembered by the reader. Poe could very well be considered as an artist as well as a writer. The narrator of the story is portrayed as a very dark and paranoid man. The narrator states at the beginning of the story, “True-nervous-very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am;” (Poe, 36). He is easily frightened and obviously insane. The narrator leaves hints to the fact that he is not mentally stable, and thus painting a picture to the reader.
