Search for the Truth

Throughout the story of Oedipus the King, by Sophocles, striving towards truth is a main theme. From the opening lines when Oedipus “interrogates” Creon and Tiresias, to the final moments, the plot spirals towards the ultimate truth; Oedipus’ fate. ... Although Oedipus’ thirst for justice leads him to seek out the truth, he ignorantly accepts the truth, as he would like to believe it. ... He truly is set on finding out the truth, no matter what it takes. ... ” in this we clearly see Oedipus refusing to believe the truth as it is laid out. ... So with this hope, he continues on his search for his own truth. ... Now, even though he doesn’t know it, Oedipus is not only finding out the truth behind the murder, but he is linking the murder with his own fate. ... It is quite ironic that one can be so hungry for the truth, yet so ignorant of it staring you right in the face.
