Jehan Alain works
I attended the Organ Recital at Luther Memorial Church on October 16, 2003. The event was the Commemoration of St. Luke, Evangelist and was preformed on the organ with a vocal performance. The music consisted of two composers: Jehan Alain and Gabriel Faure. Alain composed the first three pieces (Prelude Profane, Choral Dorian, and Variations Sur Un Teme De Clement Jannequin) while Faure composed the requiem “Pie Jesu”. The recital was actually more enjoyable than I would have thought an organ recital would have been. The recital was shorter than I imagined but interesting none the less. I believe that I will attend at least once another organ recital if it is baroque style. The main reason that I liked this recital was because it was very programmatic. Most of the pieces were extremely gloomy and brought feelings of morning, memorial, and death. The first piece, Prelude Profane, was composed in the modern era but was written in baroque style.
