Intro to aspects of Islam
I attended an event by the Islamic Dawah Foundation called Islam beyond the headlines, where I learned more about Islam and the beliefs involved in its’ practice. ... He then explains to us the five pillars of Islam including: a declaration of faith, a rule of five prayers a day, the idea of donating to charity, a month long fast during Ramadan, and a pilgrimage to Mecca. He concludes by correcting four misconceptions about Muslims including: Muslims worship Muhammad, Muslims are only Arabs, Islam advocates terrorism, Muslims don’t believe in Jesus. ... Islam is merely a scapegoat for irreligious victims of oppression. ... Afterwards, my competence about Islam had greatly increased. ... The only idea that I struggled with was that men and women should be treated differently, even in such aspects such as hand-shaking, simply because we were created differently.
