Phaedo Socrates was an extremely wise and intelligent man. I use the word wise because after reading the Phaedo I realized that a true philosopher is in search of one thing, wisdom, and this is just what Socrates dedicated his life to. ... In the Phaedo Socrates says to Simmias and Cebes “the real philosopher has reason to be of good cheer when he is about to die, and that there after death may be hope to obtain the greatest good in the other world. ... The Phaedo begins with a question to Socrates from Cebes about why he does not believe in death and Socrates answered this question with an old doctrine that says “man is a prisoner who has no right to open the door and run away.
