Bipolar Disorder There are times that I feel very happy, excited, energetic, and hyperactive. But there are also times that I feel very depressed, helpless, angry, exhausted, and lazy. Nights after nights of sleeplessness, especially this quarter, and my mind is always not at ease. When we went over the moods disorder in class, I was concerned whether or not the feelings that I and experiencing are the symptoms of bipolar disorder. With great curiosity and concerns, I decided to do my research paper on bipolar disorder to learn more about the disorder and about my self as well. Bipolar disorder, also know as manic depression, is one of the three major moods disorders; unipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder are the other two. Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder marked by a manic episode or the less intense hypomanic episode; some people with this disorder also experience depression. It is also the mental illness that can be described as a neurobiological brain disorder involving extremes in mood. A person with bipolar disorder experiences cycling of moods changing that usually shifts from a manic episode to a depression and then back again, with periods of normal mood in between. A manic episode is a period of at least a week during which an abnormally elevated, expansive, or irritable mood persists.
