critical thinking paper
The purpose of this paper is to define Critical Thinking. First, I will discuss the etymology of critical thinking. After, discuss certain methods that will explain more clearly the use of critical thinking. Finally, introduce you to five methods used by John Chaffee to develop and become a more proficient critical thinker. ETYMOLOGY The etymology of critical thinking goes back to the Greek word for “critic”, “kritike”, which is the art of judgment. The word critical is defined as involving or exercising careful judgment (Oxford 30). The Synonyms for critical are defined as being decisive, explanatory, clarifying, or being an scholoristic person (Thesaurus 245). Thinking is defined as having thought, or cogitation meditation; having a mental action or activity (Oxford 949), or to form in mind a mental picture (Webster 751).
