Had there been no years?
E.B. White’s “Once More to the Lake” demonstrates the idea of change when he describes a trip he took with his son to a lake that was once his family’s vacation spot. White illustrates all of the things that he remembers most about the lake; those that have stayed the same, and those that have changed. Throughout the essay White is constantly reminded how much his son is just as he was at that age, while he jumps from his own childhood memories to the present trip to the lake.
White begins by reflecting upon his first trip to the lake with his own family. ... He states that “from then on none of us ever thought there was any place in the world like that lake in Maine (53).
