“The Valedictorian and the Loser,” is an article written by a former Carmel High School student about how our education system teaches students the wrong kind of success. The author does a good job of convincing his reader that the flaws in the system create two types of students, but he neglects the reality that there are students in between these two extremes who can find success as well. The article is about the author’s view of our education system. He has experienced both sides of the spectrum and reflects on his change from the loser he enjoyed being, to the valedictorian he was pressured to become. He explains that success is measured by how well you can please another person, rather than the true intellectual ability of a student.
