Gatsby believes that in order for her to return this love, he needs to buy a large house, obtain items that he never uses, and host parties to get her attention. ... Gatsby quickly and incredulously responds “Can’t repeat the past? ... Toward the end of the book, Gatsby and Daisy take off in his car.
