Weakness and the Great Gatsby
The need for money and power creates a weakness in all of us that could ultimately lead to destruction. ... Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, this happens to several characters. Gatsby, Daisy, and Wilson all have weaknesses that ruin their lives. Gatsby’s need for money, power, and to recreate the past eventually lead to his death. In a conversation with Nick, Gatsby says that “her voice is full of money” (Fitzgerald, 127). When Gatsby met Daisy for the first time 5 years earlier, he talks about how she had the biggest lawn on the block, a large house, etc. ... Gatsby believes that in order for her to return this love, he needs to buy a large house, obtain items that he never uses, and host parties to get her attention. ... Gatsby quickly and incredulously responds “Can’t repeat the past? ... Toward the end of the book, Gatsby and Daisy take off in his car.
