Handmaids Tale comparison between Handmaids and Korean women during 1500s
In MargaretĄ¯s HandmaidĄ¯s Tale, majority of the women were dominated by men and therefore they were expected to follow their rules and commands. Similarly, Korean women during 1500Ą¯s were considered low in status than men and were deprived of their rights as an individual. In HandmaidĄ¯s Tale, handmaidĄ¯s are named after their commander, and their original names are never mentioned. ... Traditionally, South Korean women were expected lose their last name and change to her husbandĄ¯s family name, which signified that she was no longer part of her childhood family, but a member of her husbandĄ¯s.
