A Comparison And Contrast Of Quantitative
and Qualitative Research Methods
Research smoothes out contradiction and makes things simple, logical and coherent (szent-Gyorgyi, 1980). Without research the subject at hand seems mixed up, illogical and incoherent. As Drew said “Research is conducted to solve problems and expand knowledge. Therefore research is a method of putting together results to come up with a greater insight into a chosen field. To achieve your goal in a research project a stable set of specific questions must be devised, which are connected, integrated and in the end form a coherent whole. Once that has been accomplished the methods for the research must be decided, they are design (what data will be needed), data collection (how to get the data), and data analysis (what to do with the data once collected).
Two ways of gathering research methods are called Quantitative and Qualitative. ... Another difference between Quantitative and Qualitative is in Webster’s (1967), Quantitative analysis is described as a chemical analysis designed to determine the amounts of the components of a substance, while Qualitative analysis is described as a chemical analysis designed to identify the components of a substance. The conclusion in terms of chemistry is that a qualitative analysis is a presupposition for a quantitative analysis. However in Interviews by Kvale (1996) it states that Quantitative and Qualitative approaches interact in the practice of social research, depending on the purpose of the investigation.
