Brett’s Past and Present in Character
In Earnest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises” he uses a very important and main character named Brett. Brett is a very colorful character in her past and present. There are several aspects about this character that are very important to the novel such as; war, love life, being privileged, and being able to hang on to someone.
The war is a very important factor in this novel; it has affected in some way every character. We don’t know anything of Brett before the war. ...
Brett losing her first love in the war obviously affected her other relationships a great deal. Being devastated by losing a loved one in such a way causes other emotional problems Brett is obviously scared to get to close to anyone she shies away from the people who do love her such as Jake, but yet she’s always married it seems. Brett is the type that marries for convenience and stature.
