Where he says that leaving the “lifeboat” as one who feels these pangs of conscience only serves to rid the “lifeboat” of such people, his language brings to mind the fact that some of the ministry going to foreign countries could be a tradeoff against ministry to our own. For me, though, this only reinforces the notion that work in the direction of such compassionate ministry is more desperately needed everyday—both in the “lifeboat” and outside it.
