WAR ON COMMON SENSE The war on drugs has been going on since prohibition in the 1920’s. During that time police would fight the hopeless and costly war against bootleggers whom were making a massive profit off the then illegal substance. In turn the bootleggers were fighting a bloody war amongst each other for rights to sell to the masses. ... However the war on drugs is not working. ... Theses facts make the war on drugs a social problem. ... For some people such as the members of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association the war on drugs is not a social problem, in fact they believe it is helping society. A major setback lies in that many of the average people in America don’t see the war on drugs as a problem. ... The question arises why is the war on drugs is a social problem. ... According to the Drug Enforcement Agency’s mission statement, the goal of the war on drugs is to reduce and eventually eliminate drug use, abuse, sale and import and manufacture of illicit and illegal substances (Mission Statement) Their goal is to reduce the number of people using drugs as time goes on. ... Compile that information with no major decline in any of the illegal drugs and you can see the futility of the drug war. ... As you can imagine fighting a war isn’t cheap and this one is no exception. ...
