Terms of Reference • SG plc is a 15 year old double-glazing company providing windows, conservatories, doors, plastic guttering and soffits. • Consists of 3 offices in Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham. • 6 staff in each office, 2 administrative and 4 sales persons. • Products are of good quality, competitively priced with a 10-year guarantee and excellent sales care. • All offices are computerized. Findings • Existing software are of different manufacturing make causing incompatibility problems in wordprocessing, spreadsheets and database applications. • System of acquiring raw materials is inefficient. • Administration work is extremely large and time consuming. • Double-glazing market is extremely competitive. • Lot of time is wasted on customers who will not ever buy. Recommendations The first problem that needs to be addressed is that of the software. It is very important to keep a consistent and compatible type of software throughout SG plc not only within each office but also through all offices. This is important as if documents containing information for the running of the business need to be exchanged between offices they can be transferred simply by disk rather than having to re-type it onto one computer from another which is time consuming.
