The “Crucifixion” painted by Raphael of Urbino was commissioned for the Church of San Domenico in Città di Castellothe in 1502. It is full of symbolism for worshipers of that time and is a contradiction to the actual use of crucifixion. The Romans used the crucifixion as a method of capital punishment, which caused maximum pain and suffering over a significant period of time.
