A Defining Moment

On December 7, 1941 President Roosevelt stood before a stunned and outraged American public and spoke of the day that would live in infamy, the day that would never be forgotten. He spoke about the fight to protect freedom, avowed that America would triumph over evil, and he ended with the heartfelt words; God Bless America. More than fifty years later those same words were uttered throughout the United States, as the deadly acts of terrorism against the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon shattered America’s sense of security. Once again the president of the United States, this time President Bush, stood before another stunned and outraged American public and spoke about the faceless cowards who had killed so many, of another day that would live in infamy, and announced that America would once again triumph over evil. Now, a year later the signs of healing are everywhere.
