Caldecott eventually landed a job as a draughtsman for local periodicals from 1868 to 1869, and got attention from a wider public with the publication of some sketches in 1871 in London Society (Works by Children’s Book Illustrators Homepage. ... After the success of these two books, Caldecott and Evans produced two picture books each Christmas season until Caldecotts untimely death in 1886.
