dictators

During the time between 1945 and 1991 many countries were under the control of dictators. U.S.S.R, Cuba, Romania and China just to name a few. Each of these countries prior to the dictatorship was all in a state of economic turmoil. Nicolae Ceausescu gained power in Romania in 1965, but before this Romanians were in a state of great separation refusing to participate in the Comecon plan lead to a division of labor with the Soviet Bloc. Romania remained a loyal member of the Warsaw pact but did not support the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia thus leaving them the only independent state with their own oil supplies. In 1974 Ceausecu was elected as president of Romania, during his time in office he emphasized the idea of Romanian Nationalism and rapid industrialization. Because of the great economic turmoil of the 1980’s Ceausescu tightened control and adapted his own type of personality forcing it onto the people of Romania, everyone had to live under strict socialist principles.
