Beowulf and the values of Anglo Saxon Society
Beowulf is an epic poem, which is a long narrative about the adventures of larger-than-life characters. Beowulf embodies the attitudes and ideals of an entire culture. Throughout Beowulf, many values of Anglo-Saxon society are revealed. The main character of this epic poem is Beowulf. He is a hero whose values come from Anglo-Saxon society. In Anglo-Saxon times, success was gained through loyalty to the leader and was measured in gifts that were received from the leader. Beowulf was very loyal to king Hrothgar even though Hrothgar wasn’t his leader. ... This reveals that the Anglo-Saxon society was developed from kinship groups led by a strong chief.
