Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged

... This book was called Atlas Shrugged, the story of a man who swore to stop the motor of the world- and did.
The heroes and heroines, the residents of Galt’s Gulch, of Atlas Shrugged did not have any magic powers or a humongous arsonary. ... As Ayn Rand stated: "My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute." The characters of Atlas Shrugged were rugged individualists and free thinkers who truly represent “man as a heroic being” and the projection of the ideal human being. ... This was unnerving at first but was not made apparent until I learned that the book’s publication date coincided with the Red Scare suggesting the possibility that her novel could just be a form of propaganda and some speculate that Ayn Rand was psychotic, using writing as a form of self therapy to suppress her homicidal rages which brought me a whole new perspective on the novel.
