(17;4) In school when she learned that she had to talk is when the misery of silence began, she knew that being Chinese had to do with the silence because the other Chinese girls that were in her class did not speak either. ... It was when I found out I had to talk that school became a misery, that the silence became a misery. ... The other Chinese girls did not talk either, so I knew the silence had to do with being a Chinese girl. ... This move has been a very big change for me and I can reflect on what the girl in The Misery of silence was going through. ... The Misery of Silence dealt with issues that people can relate to.
