Assertive Discipline vs Choice Theory
When we first learned about Glasser’s choice theory and assertive discipline, I thought that there was no comparison. Glasser’s choice theory sounded like the better option, hands down. ... I did like a lot about Glasser’s theory, so I’ll explain that first, but most of the paper will be about why it wouldn’t work to just switch over. ... I know that we watched the video where Glasser’s theory had been integrated into an elementary school, so I know it’s possible. ... Most kids are brought up from birth being motivated by assertive discipline, or the extremes surrounding it. To come into a classroom using the choice theory would be a welcome change for some students but just weird for others. ... Another hitch that I see in immediately implementing Glasser’s theory is the absence of punishments and rewards. I don’t think that one could expect students that have been taught using the assertive discipline system to easily adjust to a new system void of them.
