The Magic Flute

The Magic Flute, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is not the traditional tragic opera. This opera had a happy ending and it was quite humorous. This opera was about a prince, Tamino, who was tricked into helping the evil Queen of the Night. If he had killed the Queen’s adversary, Sarastro, he would get her daughter’s hand in marriage. He was accompanied by a jester-like character named Papageno. What Tamino didn’t know was that Sarastro was not an evil person at all. He was a savior to his people. He brought light, happiness, and wisdom to his people. Once Tamino saw the Queen’s daughter, Pamina, it was love at first sight. Pamina explained that Sarastro was not an evil man and he only kept Pamina from her mother because she was evil.
