Southern Values for Everyday
As a person grows and matures, his or her values are tested while perceptions are altered and new opinions are develped. Causes for this change in values may be from new experiences or formthe influence of others. Whatever the reason may be, a persons desires, convictions, and values change as time elapses. In Alice Walkers short story, "Everyday Use," a reunited family displays contrasting values and morals; by way of exploring conflicting family members and views in "Everyday Use," Walker illustrates the importance of understanding life in relation to the traditions of the people and culture of the South.
