Literary Criticism
Since the beginning of literary criticism, practitioners of the various approaches have been in constant struggle to find the best and most accurate approach to literature. As a result, the various critics have been putting down their peers’ approaches, criticizing, and disregarding criticism methods that have been used for hundreds of years. ... There are six main criticism approaches that look at a work of art from many different points of view. The Traditional, the Formalistic, the Mythological, the Psychological, the Feminist approach, and Cultural Studies are only six of the many methods used for literary criticism. ... Another approach which is as existing and unique is the Mythological approach, which deals with the inner meaning of certain concepts, ideas and images within a literary work. ... Yet by looking at the analysis we have made on “Autumn Closing”, we can unquestionably say that the approaches used support each other for a better, more insightful, understanding of the literary work. ... By using two extremely diverse methods of literary criticism, and successfully showing that the methods supported, and even added on to meaning of the work, one can safely conclude by saying that the interpretive strategy one uses does not change the meaning of a work of literature.
