Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was a remarkable and intelligent man whom once said he wanted to be remembered for three things which were: drafting the Declaration of Independence, writing and supporting the Virginia statue for Religious Freedom (1786), and for founding the University of Virginia. These three accomplishments of his all testify to have common that Jefferson’s lifelong passion to liberate the human mind from tyranny whether it’s imposed by the stat, the church, or our own ignorance. ... I suppose Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence because it was his way of doing something for his country at the time.
